Not feeling well during the holidays? Consider these options before heading to the Emergency Department

Call  Info-Santé 811 and chose option 1 to speak to someone who will assess your  health status.  This person will advise you about home care or refer you to the appropriate health service.

If you or a loved one is experiencing an emotional shock or a difficult period, call  Info-Santé 811 and chose option 2. A psychosocial professional is available 24/7 to guide you toward the appropriate resources.

If you do not have a family doctor, call  Info-Santé 811 and chose option 3 to reach someone to advise you about home care. This person will direct you to the healthcare professional best suited to your situation.

To find health or psychosocial services that meet your specific needs, you can also contact the  Primary Care Access Point (PCA). This online service offers personalized recommendations and directs you to available resources if you do not have a family doctor.

Most people with infectious diseases, such as the flu or gastroenteritis, recover without special treatment in about two weeks.   A self-care guide can help manage symptoms at home, without your having to go to the Emergency Department.

Take good care of yourself by consulting these resources before going to the Emergency Department. The 811 team wishes you happy holidays!
